SolveAlong is operated by SolveAlong. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it and how to delete it. Questions: contact@solvealong.app.

What we collect

  • From Google sign-in: your account ID, name and profile picture. Your email address is used by Google sign-in only; other players never see it.
  • What you choose to add: your display name, avatar choice, profile visibility and spoiler settings.
  • Your play: the cases you start, each guess (who, the playback time and any note), your answers and any corrections, scores, optional research answers, private suspects you add and missing-cast reports.
  • Social activity: follows, follow requests, reactions and notifications (new followers, accepted follow requests and, unless you turn them off in Settings, reactions to your cases).
  • Operational records: short-lived rate-limit counters, and for guests a salted, one-way hash of the network address used only to limit abuse.

How it is used

  • To run the game: saving guesses, finishing cases and scoring them.
  • To check answers: a case's title and cast list (never your name, guesses or notes) are sent to OpenAI to research the case's shared culprit answer.
  • To show your activity to the people allowed to see it. A public profile appears to anyone; a private profile only to accepted followers. Guesses, culprits and scores stay hidden from each viewer until they finish the case.
  • To keep the service working: we send operational alerts to a private operator channel. New-account alerts contain your display name, account ID and profile link; activity alerts contain your display name, the case title and what happened (for example “locked guess 2” or “followed Sam”); error alerts contain event types and IDs. They never contain your email, notes, guessed names, suspects, culprits or network address.

Service providers

Google Firebase (sign-in and database), Vercel (hosting), OpenAI (case research, with no personal data), TMDB (film and TV information) and Discord (the private operator channel) and a self-hosted Umami analytics server. We do not sell personal data or use it for advertising.

Cookies and device storage

We use only essential cookies: a secure sign-in session cookie and a small cookie remembering that you chose to play as a guest. Guest play stores your cases and guesses in your browser's local storage on your device. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

Analytics

We count visits with Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that we host ourselves and serve from this website. It uses no cookies and no cross-site tracking. It records the page visited (without query strings), the referring site, browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language and approximate country. Visitors are counted with an anonymous identifier that changes regularly; your IP address and account are not stored with it.

Keeping and deleting your data

You can delete your account from Settings. Deleting it removes your profile, name, settings, cases, guesses, notes, answers, scores, private suspects, reports, research answers, follows, follow requests, notifications you sent or received, reactions, guest imports and rate-limit records, and removes your name from shared review records. Access ends immediately and deletion completes within about a minute.

  • Each case's shared culprit answer, cast list and research records stay, because they belong to the case rather than to any player.
  • Local operational delivery records are kept for up to 30 days and are removed for your account when you delete it. Messages already delivered to the private operator channel are managed separately by the operator and are not erased by account deletion.
  • Hosting providers keep their own short-lived technical logs under their own policies. Backups or exports made by the operator are not altered by account deletion.
  • We cannot delete guest data stored in a browser on your device; clear your browser storage to remove it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your data, or to object to its use. Contact contact@solvealong.app.

Children

SolveAlong is not directed at children under 13.
